If you also have a burning sensation when urinating or a fever, it could be a urinary tract infection, and it is important to treat it promptly.

What does blood in the urine mean?

Seeing blood in the urine (hematuria) can be alarming, but it is not always serious. However, it should always be evaluated. The most common causes are: The bleeding can be visible (red, pink, or dark) or microscopic, detected only in a urine test.

How do I evaluate these symptoms?

During the consultation, I perform a complete physical examination and, depending on the case, I may order:
  • General urinalysis and urine culture
  • Blood tests to assess kidney function
  • Renal and bladder ultrasound
  • Cystoscopy to directly view the inside of the bladder
